Types of yoga.

Bodhidham teaches in the classical Himalayan lineage. Each practice below is taught on its own terms — in our retreats, in teacher training, and in daily ashram life. This is what they are, and what they ask of you.

Where to start

One tradition, several doors in.

Hatha builds the base most people start from. Ashtanga adds heat and rhythm. Kundalini and Yoga Nidra work inward rather than outward, pranayama trains the breath that carries all of them, and sound healing is the one practice here you receive rather than perform. You do not have to choose before you arrive.

Practice 01

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is the foundational system of physical yoga that forms the basis of most modern yoga styles. At Bodhidham, Hatha Yoga is taught in its classical form — structured sequences of asanas held with awareness, combined with pranayama and meditation, following the principles of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The practice develops strength, flexibility, balance, and inner stillness.
Practice 02

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic, flowing system of yoga developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois from the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya. The primary series (Yoga Chikitsa) is practised at Bodhidham, synchronising breath with movement (Vinyasa) to create internal heat, purification, and meditative focus.
Practice 03

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga works with the primal energy (Shakti) coiled at the base of the spine, using specific kriyas, breathwork, mudras, bandhas, and mantras to awaken and channel this energy upward through the chakra system. At Bodhidham, Kundalini practices are introduced within the traditional tantric framework.
Practice 04

Pranayama

Pranayama — the yogic science of breath regulation — is taught as a core practice at Bodhidham. Students learn foundational techniques (Nadi Shodhana, Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, Sitali) as well as advanced practices (Kumbhaka, Bandha integration, Bhramari). Pranayama is the bridge between the physical and the meditative dimensions of yoga.
Practice 05

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) is a systematic practice of deep conscious relaxation that induces the hypnagogic state between waking and sleeping. It is used at Bodhidham for stress release, trauma healing, sleep improvement, and as a gateway to deeper meditation. Each session is a 30-45 minute guided journey through the koshas (sheaths of the body-mind).
Practice 06

Sound Healing (Tibetan Singing Bowls)

Tibetan and Himalayan singing bowls have been used for centuries in Nepal and Tibet for meditation, ritual, and healing. At Bodhidham, singing bowl sound healing sessions are offered both as standalone experiences and as part of retreat programs. The resonant tones of the bowls create vibrational frequencies that entrain brainwaves into meditative states, balance the chakras, and support physical and emotional healing.
