The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek Details:
This trek is graded moderate and is a step up from Poon Hill Yoga Trek, it reaches a higher altitude, has some narrower ridge sections, and the upper camps are cold. You don't need technical skills, but you should be comfortable walking 3–5 hours a day on uneven trails.
The viewpoint sits above 4,000 m the itinerary ascends gradually; as we watch for signs of altitude discomfort and adjust as needed. October–November and March–April give the most stable weather and clearest views. The high camps can be very cold or snowbound in winter, and the monsoon brings cloud and slippery trails.
What to bring:
Insulated jacket, Gloves, Warm hat and Sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm, headtorch, trekking poles, waterproof trekking shoes, a 1-litre water bottle, and a light rain jacket. Pack for cold nights at High Camp and the viewpoint in particular.

Frequently asked
How fit do I need to be for this trek?
+
This trek is graded moderate and is a step up from Poon Hill. You'll walk around 3-5 hours a day on uneven trails, with some narrower ridge sections higher up. No technical skills are needed, but you should be comfortable with consecutive days of walking.
Check with your doctor first if you have a condition affecting walking or altitude
Do I need trekking or yoga experience?
+
Yoga experience isn't required, sessions are adapted to the group. Some prior walking or hiking experience is helpful here because of the altitude and the length, though it isn't essential.
How high does the trek go, and is altitude a concern?
+
The Upper Viewpoint sits at around 4,200 m. Above 4,000 m, some people feel the effects of altitude. The itinerary is paced to ascend gradually, and we watch for signs of discomfort and adjust as needed, but acclimatisation depends on the individual.
Are the yoga sessions compulsory?
+
No. They're offered morning and evening and you can skip them to rest, especially around the higher camps.
When is the best time to go?
+
October - November and March - April give the most stable weather and clearest views. The high camps can be very cold or snowbound in winter, and the monsoon brings clouds, leeches in the forest, and slippery trails.
What's the accommodation like?
+
A hotel in Pokhara on the first and last nights, and teahouse stays throughout the trek on a sharing basis. Teahouses on the Mardi route are simpler and fewer than on busier trails, and the upper camps are cold at night, so warm layers matter.
How is this different from the Poon Hill trek?
+
Mardi Himal is quieter, longer (7 days vs 6), and higher (around 4,200 m vs 3,210 m). Poon Hill is the gentler option and a good first Himalayan trek; Mardi suits you if you want a quieter trail and don't mind a bit more altitude and cold.
Can I get a porter?
+
Yes. Porter service isn't included but can be arranged for around €16 per day; a porter carries up to about 15 kg.
The practical side of it.
A few honest notes before you book. Most students fly into Kathmandu and either fly or bus to Pokhara, and we collect you from the airport or the bus park, free.
Visa on arrival at Kathmandu (Tribhuvan) for 80+ nationalities. USD 30 (15 days) / 50 (30 days) / 125 (90 days). Bring 2 passport photos and USD cash.
September to November and February to May are the clearest. Monsoon (June to August) is quieter and often better priced. We run year-round.
Modest yoga clothes, warm layer (mornings are cool), refillable water bottle, journal. Mat, blanket and bolster are provided.
No mandatory vaccines. If on prescription medication, bring a supply. Pokhara has good clinics; we are 20 minutes from the city hospital.
