Poon Hill Yoga Trek
Poon Hill Yoga Trek - 5N/6D
The Ghorepani Poon Hill route is one of the more accessible trails in the Annapurna region, which makes it a good fit if you want to walk in the Himalayas without committing to a long, high-altitude trek.
Over six days you pass through rhododendron and oak forest, stay in village teahouses, and climb before dawn to the Poon Hill viewpoint (3,210 m) for a sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Why the Poon Hill trek?
A real first Himalayan trek, six days with no technical climbing, on a well-built teahouse trail.
Daily yoga and meditation, morning and evening, led by an instructor who walks with the group.
Sunrise from Poon Hill at 3,210 m, looking across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
Forest and village trails, with a soak in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda.
A small group and a relaxed pace, suitable even if you have never trekked before.
Walkable year-round, with quieter trails outside peak season.
Everything handled: licensed guide, all permits, teahouse stays, meals on the trail, and transfers from Pokhara

PoonHill Yoga Trek Detail:
The walking is graded moderate. Most days involve 4-6 hrs on the trail, including a long stretch of stone steps near Ulleri. No prior trekking or altitude experience is needed, though reasonable general fitness makes the trek more enjoyable. The route stays below 3,300 m, so altitude is rarely an issue. Skies are usually clearest in October–November and March–April; the monsoon months (June–August) are greener and quieter but often cloudy, so mountain views are less reliable.
What to bring:
Insulated jacket, gloves, warm hat and sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm, headtorch, trekking poles, waterproof trekking shoes, a 1-litre water bottle, and a light rain jacket.

Frequently asked
How fit do I need to be?
+
The trek is graded moderate. You'll walk roughly 4–6 hours on most days, including a long stretch of stone steps near Ulleri. You don't need trekking experience, but being comfortable with a few hours of walking and some uphill helps. If you have a health condition that affects walking or altitude, check with your doctor before booking.
Do I need to know yoga already?
+
No. Sessions are adapted to who's in the group, and beginners are welcome. The practice is short and practical rather than a fixed advanced sequence.
Are the yoga sessions compulsory?
+
No. They're offered each morning and evening, and you can rest instead after a demanding day on the trail.
Is altitude a concern on this trek?
+
The route stays below 3,300 m, so altitude sickness is uncommon. Some people still feel mild effects of the elevation; the pace is relaxed, which helps.
When is the best time to go?
+
October-November and March-April usually have the clearest skies. The monsoon months (June-August) are green and quiet but often cloudy, so mountain views are less reliable. The trail is walkable year-round.
What's the accommodation like?
+
One hotel night in Pokhara at the start and end, and teahouse (lodge) stays on trekking days, on a sharing basis. Teahouses are simple, a basic room and shared facilities, and along this trail there are plenty of them.
Can I get a porter?
+
Yes. Porter service is not included but can be arranged for around €16 per day; a porter carries up to about 15 kg.
What if the weather is bad on the Poon Hill sunrise morning?
+
Mountain weather can't be guaranteed. If it's cloudy, the viewpoint hike still goes ahead where it's safe, but a clear sunrise depends on conditions on the day.
The practical side of it.
A few honest notes before you book. Most students fly into Kathmandu and either fly or bus to Pokhara, and we collect you from the airport or the bus park, free.
Visa on arrival at Kathmandu (Tribhuvan) for 80+ nationalities. USD 30 (15 days) / 50 (30 days) / 125 (90 days). Bring 2 passport photos and USD cash.
September to November and February to May are the clearest. Monsoon (June to August) is quieter and often better priced. We run year-round.
Modest yoga clothes, warm layer (mornings are cool), refillable water bottle, journal. Mat, blanket and bolster are provided.
No mandatory vaccines. If on prescription medication, bring a supply. Pokhara has good clinics; we are 20 minutes from the city hospital.
