Overview

Long Term Retreat at Bodhidham — 1 to 3 Months

A residential long-term retreat for those wishing to undertake a serious immersion in yoga, meditation, and ashram life for one to three months in the Himalayas.

The Long Term Retreat at Bodhidham is designed for individuals who seek a profound, extended immersion in yogic and meditative practice. Whether for one month, two months, or three months, residents become part of the ashram community — joining all daily practices, contributing to ashram life, deepening their personal practice under ongoing teacher guidance, and allowing the cumulative effect of sustained sadhana to produce genuine transformation. Long-term residents typically work through multiple levels of practice: intensive asana, advanced pranayama, meditation, philosophy study, mantra, and periods of self-inquiry. The ashram's natural setting, organic diet, and community support provide ideal conditions for this depth of practice.

Why the Long Term Retreat?

  • The time for a practice to become a genuine daily habit, not just an introduction

  • A full immersion in the daily rhythm of ashram life

  • Daily classical yoga, pranayama, meditation, and mantra

  • Spiritual discourse and study, with one-to-one guidance available

  • Karma yoga, taking part in the life and work of the ashram

  • A weekly healing session or Ayurvedic massage, and Saturdays free for rest

  • Flexible length, stay one month or several, with everything included in one monthly price

Long Term Retreat Details:

The Long Term Retreat at Bodhidham, on the ashram in Ghachowk near Pokhara, is an open-ended residential immersion for people who want to live the practice rather than sample it. It runs for a minimum of one month, with the flexibility to stay longer.

The retreat follows a structured daily rhythm: early meditation and pranayama, classical yoga, spiritual study, walking meditation, karma yoga, and evening satsang, with silent meals and early nights. The longer you stay, the more this becomes second nature, which is the whole point of a long stay over a short one. One day a week is kept free, and a weekly healing session or Ayurvedic massage supports rest and recovery.

It suits a wide range of people: those who want to deepen an existing practice, those navigating a life transition and wanting time to think, and writers or seekers who simply want a calm, structured base for a while. It is open to committed beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

What the retreat includes:

  • Daily yoga and meditation. Classical yoga, pranayama, guided meditation, and mantra, every day.
  • Spiritual study. Daily discourse on yogic philosophy, with self-reflection and journaling.
  • Walking meditation. Daily time in nature as part of the practice.
  • Karma yoga. Taking part in the daily service and life of the ashram.
  • One-to-one guidance. Private sessions with a teacher, available as you need them.
  • Weekly healing. A healing session or Ayurvedic massage once a week, with Saturdays free.

Bodhidham is a truly special place. I joined the 200-hour YTT and it was the best decision of my life. Swami Ananda is an extraordinary teacher — knowledgeable, kind, and deeply committed to authentic yoga. The ashram environment, the organic food, the mountain views... everything was perfect. I left with skills, confidence, and a profound inner shift. Highly recommend to anyone serious about yoga.

Attended the Silent Meditation Retreat and it exceeded all expectations. The silence was challenging at first but became deeply nourishing. The structure was perfect — yoga, meditation, philosophy, walks in nature. Swami Ananda's dharma talks were the highlight. I have attended many retreats in India and Europe and Bodhidham stands out for authenticity, warmth, and the incredible natural setting.

The 100-hour YTT at Bodhidham was an incredible experience. Despite being shorter than a full 200-hour program, the depth of teaching was remarkable. I learned more about real yoga in 11 days at Bodhidham than in years of studio classes back home. The environment — the village, the mountains, the organic farm, the community — creates the perfect conditions for deep learning. Already planning to return for the 200-hour.

Bodhidham exceeded all my expectations. The Yoga Trek was an incredible combination of physical challenge, natural beauty, and deep inner practice. Doing yoga at sunrise on Poon Hill with the Annapurna range in front of you is an experience that defies description. The guide was expert and the daily yoga sessions were adapted perfectly to our physical state after trekking. Absolutely magical.

I came in thinking mantra was a bit esoteric. By day four I was chanting on the bus back to the airport. The most practical meditation tool I've ever been given.

I spent 3 weeks doing the 200hr YTT at Bodhidham and it was truly life-changing. The teaching is authentic and deep — not just postures but the full philosophical and spiritual dimension of yoga. The location in Ghachowk is stunning. Waking up every morning to Himalayan views and birdsong sets the perfect tone for practice. The food is delicious and healing. I returned home a different person.

Best retreat experience I've had. The ashram has a beautiful family atmosphere. Teachers are genuinely experienced and caring. The food is outstanding — all organic, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The mountain views are unreal. I came for a 7-day retreat and extended by another week because I didn't want to leave. Will definitely return.

I came to Bodhidham for the singing bowl and sound healing course and it was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. The instructor's knowledge is encyclopedic — history, technique, therapeutic application, the spiritual dimension. The sessions in the ashram garden at dusk with the Himalayan backdrop were genuinely magical. I left with a professional-level skill and a beautiful Nepali hand-hammered bowl. Unforgettable.

I attended the Detox Yoga Retreat and felt genuinely renewed by the end of the 7 days. The Ayurvedic diet, the daily yoga and pranayama, the kriyas, the mountain walks — it all worked together seamlessly to produce a sense of lightness and clarity I haven't felt in years. The teachers are knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely invested in each participant's wellbeing. The ashram is beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend.

I'd tried Vipassana once and struggled. Mantra gave me something for the mind to do — the first time concentration felt accessible rather than a test I was failing.

The two nights of silence landed me somewhere I haven't been since childhood. Not mystical — just genuinely quiet. Came home unable to small-talk for a week.

This is the real thing. Not a yoga resort or a wellness hotel, but a genuine ashram with genuine teachers in a genuinely beautiful natural setting. The 300-hour advanced YTT was rigorous, comprehensive, and transformative. Swami Ananda and the team pushed us hard and supported us completely. I left as a significantly more capable and confident teacher. Best professional development investment I have ever made.

Frequently asked

How long do I have to commit to?

+
The minimum stay is one month. Beyond that it is flexible, you can stay for several months if you wish. The one-month minimum exists for a reason: a long retreat works through consistency, and a month is roughly the time it takes for the daily rhythm to stop feeling like a schedule and start feeling like a practice.

Do I need yoga or meditation experience?

+
No. The retreat is open to committed beginners and experienced practitioners alike. What matters more than experience is genuine willingness to follow the daily routine, the early starts, the silence, the karma yoga, for an extended period. If you have a regular practice already, the retreat lets you deepen it.

What is karma yoga, and is it compulsory?

+
Karma yoga is selfless service, taking part in the daily work and running of the ashram. It is a traditional part of ashram life and is included in the daily schedule, so it is part of the retreat rather than an optional extra. It is not heavy labour, it is contributing to the shared life of the place.

How structured are the days, and is there free time?

+
The days are quite structured, with a set rhythm from a 5:30 am start to lights out at 9:30 pm, six days a week. Saturdays are kept free for rest and personal time, and there is a weekly healing session or Ayurvedic massage. If you want an unstructured stay, this retreat is not that, the structure is the point.

What does the price include?

+
The retreat is priced per month and covers accommodation on the ashram in a shared or private room, three sattvic vegetarian meals a day, all daily yoga, meditation, and teaching, the weekly healing session or massage, and jeep transport between the ashram and Pokhara. It does not cover international flights or your Nepal visa. The current rates are €1,365 per month sharing and €1,535 per month for a private room.
