Intense Retreat Details:
The 7 day Intense Yogasana with Meditation Retreat at Bodhidham is an intensive practice retreat in Ghachowk, near Pokhara, for committed practitioners. Over seven days it works through the pillars of classical yogic discipline: the eight limbs of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga as a framework, structured asana sequences, pranayama, and seated meditation, building toward a sustained personal practice.
The retreat is built around tapas, the disciplined and consistent effort at the centre of classical practice. Sessions begin at an introductory level and build into longer, more demanding work as the week progresses. Tapas here means steady commitment, not strain, but the retreat is genuinely hard, and it is best suited to people who already have a regular practice. Teaching is guided by experienced teachers drawing on Himalayan yoga lineages, with personal adjustments and one-on-one sessions available throughout.
This is not a rest or beginner retreat. You should have an established yoga practice and be in good general health before joining. If you are newer to yoga or want a gentler week, our Standard or Nature retreats are a better fit, and we are happy to point you to one.
What you study and practise
- Patanjali's eight limbs. The framework of classical yoga, from the ethical foundations through asana and pranayama to the inner limbs.
- Asana practice. Structured sequences of classical postures, building strength, flexibility, and steadiness with attention to alignment.
- Pranayama. Foundational breathing techniques, including Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, and Ujjayi.
- Surya Namaskar. The traditional sun salutation, practised as a daily moving meditation of breath and movement.
- Dhyana (seated meditation). Sustained seated practice to build concentration and stillness.
- Shatkarma. Instruction in the traditional yogic cleansing practices that prepare the body for deeper practice.
- Mantra and chanting. Traditional Sanskrit mantras to open and close each day.
