Overview

Standard Yoga Retreat in Pokhara, Nepal

This is the most straightforward of Bodhidham's retreats, and the easiest to combine with travel. It is held at the Lakeside ashram in central Pokhara, a couple of minutes from Phewa Lake and the market, rather than at the village ashram.

The days follow a calm rhythm of morning yoga, guided meditation, and satsang, with free time in the afternoons for sightseeing or rest. It runs as a 5 day or a 7 day retreat and is suitable for all levels.

The Standard Yoga Retreat at Bodhidham is the ideal introduction to ashram life and holistic yoga practice. Available in 5-day and 7-day formats, the retreat offers a structured daily program of Hatha Yoga asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, and healthy organic meals. Between practice sessions there is time to relax, explore the ashram gardens, interact with the local Ghachowk community, and enjoy excursions to nearby attractions including Pokhara's Fewa Lake, the World Peace Stupa, and the Tibetan refugee camp. The retreat is suitable for complete beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Why Standard Yoga Retreat?

  • Yoga Retreat with Mountain View whole Day, from Ghachowk

  • Daily classical Hatha yoga and evening guided meditation, suitable for all levels

  • Free afternoons for sightseeing, or simply resting

  • Satsang and one-to-one spiritual counselling for those who want it

  • Accommodation, meals, and a calm base very near from the city

Standard Yoga Retreat Details:

The Standard Yoga Retreat at Bodhidham is the simplest and most affordable of the ashram's retreats, held at the Lakeside location in central Pokhara. Unlike the village retreats, this one puts you a couple of minutes from Phewa Lake and the heart of Lakeside, which makes it easy to combine a calm daily practice with sightseeing and time in the city.

The daily rhythm is gentle: classical Hatha yoga in the morning, guided meditation in the evening, and satsang or a spiritual talk, with free afternoons for rest, the lake, or exploring. Depending on the length you choose, the week also includes a sound healing session, an Ayurvedic massage, a one-to-one counselling session, and an outing such as a nature walk or museum visit.

It runs as a 5 day or 7 day retreat and suits all levels, including beginners. It is a good choice if you want a real yoga retreat but also want to stay central and keep some time free for Pokhara itself.

What the retreat includes:

  • Classical Hatha yoga. Daily morning sessions with warm-ups, asana, breathing, and relaxation, suitable for all levels.
  • Guided meditation. Calm evening sessions to close each day.
  • Satsang and spiritual talks. Informal spiritual discussion, and a one-to-one counselling session.
  • Sound healing. A restful guided session with singing bowls.
  • Ayurvedic massage. One relaxing massage during the retreat.
  • Free time and outings. Open afternoons for the lake, the market, or sightseeing, plus an outing such as a nature walk or museum visit on the longer retreat.

Bodhidham is a truly special place. I joined the 200-hour YTT and it was the best decision of my life. Swami Ananda is an extraordinary teacher — knowledgeable, kind, and deeply committed to authentic yoga. The ashram environment, the organic food, the mountain views... everything was perfect. I left with skills, confidence, and a profound inner shift. Highly recommend to anyone serious about yoga.

Attended the Silent Meditation Retreat and it exceeded all expectations. The silence was challenging at first but became deeply nourishing. The structure was perfect — yoga, meditation, philosophy, walks in nature. Swami Ananda's dharma talks were the highlight. I have attended many retreats in India and Europe and Bodhidham stands out for authenticity, warmth, and the incredible natural setting.

The 100-hour YTT at Bodhidham was an incredible experience. Despite being shorter than a full 200-hour program, the depth of teaching was remarkable. I learned more about real yoga in 11 days at Bodhidham than in years of studio classes back home. The environment — the village, the mountains, the organic farm, the community — creates the perfect conditions for deep learning. Already planning to return for the 200-hour.

Bodhidham exceeded all my expectations. The Yoga Trek was an incredible combination of physical challenge, natural beauty, and deep inner practice. Doing yoga at sunrise on Poon Hill with the Annapurna range in front of you is an experience that defies description. The guide was expert and the daily yoga sessions were adapted perfectly to our physical state after trekking. Absolutely magical.

I came in thinking mantra was a bit esoteric. By day four I was chanting on the bus back to the airport. The most practical meditation tool I've ever been given.

I spent 3 weeks doing the 200hr YTT at Bodhidham and it was truly life-changing. The teaching is authentic and deep — not just postures but the full philosophical and spiritual dimension of yoga. The location in Ghachowk is stunning. Waking up every morning to Himalayan views and birdsong sets the perfect tone for practice. The food is delicious and healing. I returned home a different person.

Best retreat experience I've had. The ashram has a beautiful family atmosphere. Teachers are genuinely experienced and caring. The food is outstanding — all organic, freshly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The mountain views are unreal. I came for a 7-day retreat and extended by another week because I didn't want to leave. Will definitely return.

I came to Bodhidham for the singing bowl and sound healing course and it was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. The instructor's knowledge is encyclopedic — history, technique, therapeutic application, the spiritual dimension. The sessions in the ashram garden at dusk with the Himalayan backdrop were genuinely magical. I left with a professional-level skill and a beautiful Nepali hand-hammered bowl. Unforgettable.

I attended the Detox Yoga Retreat and felt genuinely renewed by the end of the 7 days. The Ayurvedic diet, the daily yoga and pranayama, the kriyas, the mountain walks — it all worked together seamlessly to produce a sense of lightness and clarity I haven't felt in years. The teachers are knowledgeable, caring, and genuinely invested in each participant's wellbeing. The ashram is beautiful and peaceful. Highly recommend.

I'd tried Vipassana once and struggled. Mantra gave me something for the mind to do — the first time concentration felt accessible rather than a test I was failing.

The two nights of silence landed me somewhere I haven't been since childhood. Not mystical — just genuinely quiet. Came home unable to small-talk for a week.

This is the real thing. Not a yoga resort or a wellness hotel, but a genuine ashram with genuine teachers in a genuinely beautiful natural setting. The 300-hour advanced YTT was rigorous, comprehensive, and transformative. Swami Ananda and the team pushed us hard and supported us completely. I left as a significantly more capable and confident teacher. Best professional development investment I have ever made.

Frequently asked

Do I need yoga experience to join?

+
No. This is a simple, all-levels retreat and complete beginners are welcome. The daily classical Hatha yoga is guided and gently paced, so you do not need flexibility, strength, or any prior practice. Experienced practitioners are equally welcome.

Should I choose the 5 day or the 7 day retreat?

+
The 5 day retreat is enough for a real reset: daily yoga, meditation, and a couple of additional sessions. The 7 day gives more time to settle in, with extra rest and an additional outing. If you are unsure, tell us your dates and what you are after when you enquire, and we will give you an honest recommendation.

Where is the retreat held, and how do I get there?

+
The retreat is at the ashram in Ghachowk, a traditional Gurung village about 30 minutes northwest of Pokhara. It is a quiet village surrounded by terraced farmland and hills, not a tourist area. Free pickup from Pokhara is included, so send us your arrival details and we will collect you.

What makes this different from the other retreats?

+
It is the simplest and most affordable of Bodhidham's retreats, and the only one offered in two lengths. It is built around a steady core of yoga, meditation, and satsang rather than a long list of extras. If you want a more specialised focus, our themed retreats, such as the chakra, detox, or sound healing retreats, go deeper into one subject.

What does the price include?

+
The retreat includes accommodation on the ashram in a shared or private room, three vegetarian meals a day, daily Hatha yoga and guided meditation, satsang, a sound healing session, an Ayurvedic massage, a counselling session, and pickup and drop-off in Pokhara. It does not cover international flights or your Nepal visa.
